Gaurav Athalye guides professional filmmakers and photographers on specialized trips around the world, capturing some of the most elusive wildlife. Notable highlights include documenting the Amur falcon migration in Nagaland; photographing rare cats such as the clouded leopard and marbled cat in the rainforests of Borneo; Pallas’s cat in Mongolia.
Gaurav has led expeditions to document Himalayan wildlife, including the red panda in the Eastern Himalayas, snow leopards in Ladakh, and rare primates in Borneo. He has also privately guided bird watchers across India and Borneo, and organized bespoke safaris like multi-day walking safaris in Zimbabwe and mobile camping safaris in the Kalahari Desert apart from leading trips in Uganda, Rwanda and DRC for Gorillas and Chimpanzees
Professional Photographers
He was one of the first Indian photographers to capture the rare Bornean peacock-pheasant, rediscovered after being considered extinct for 25 years. Gaurav is currently guiding client for a project that aims to photograph over 1,000 bird species across India.
Gaurav has helped clients including researchers document rare primates such as gibbons, lion-tailed macaques, Phayre’s leaf monkey, and golden monkeys, while working on lesser-known species like foxes, hyenas, and smaller cats such as fishing cats and leopard cats in India & Borneo.

The Habitat Trust is one of India’s leading NGOs focused on wildlife conservation. They work to protect natural habitats, support biodiversity, and fund research and community-driven initiatives through conservation efforts and research.
Gaurav has been working closely with them for the past 5 years, managing complex logistics for their research projects in remote regions like Orissa, Ladakh, and Northeast India. He also curates their team retreats and privately guides chairperson Roshni Nadar and family to national parks and protected areas.
