Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife – Spain, in a Sindhi business family, Rekha grew up surrounded by warm and loving Spanish people. Needless to say, Spanish was her first language and Spanish culture close to her heart. Although political instability in the region called for her to relocate to India with her parents, she was still connected to the Mediterranean island through family, friends and of course the language. After graduating from Jai Hind College in Arts she procured a Diploma in Administrative Management from NMIMS. Rekha then worked with HDFC Bank for 5 ½ years during which she was a Branch Manager and headed the Bhulabhai Desai Road and Kamla Mills Branch.
Popularly known as the Sindhi from Spain Rekha started informal Spanish training for friends at college and work here in Mumbai in 2012.
During the process, she realized that although she spoke the language fluently since she had never taught the language formally to anybody she wasn’t sure of how to teach Spanish grammar. So, Rekha decided to enroll at a Spanish Institute where she studied the framework of grammar and eventually started to teach.
While teaching the language she felt the need to take a number of courses and exams such as the DELE examination which equipped her to teach students studying the language at the IBDP level. She has now been tutoring students of various age groups for over five years.
With a career spanning over 30 years in the teaching profession, Aarti brings a wealth of expertise to her role. She teaches Physics and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and works with students of Grades 8, 9, 11,12. Crowned by a PhD in Philosophy, her educational background is a testament to her versatile interests, which extend to the domains of Science and Philosophy and support her interdisciplinary approach to teaching. Anika graduated from Parsons The New School for Design in 2009 as Designer of the Year, her work having been featured at Saks Fifth Avenue and other shows. After working in luxury childrenswear in New York, she returned to Mumbai to start her own brand and began teaching. She has taught at several institutions- Raffles, ISDI, ABWA, Ecole Intuit Lab, has guest lectured at Parsons New York, NIFT, BD Somani, Cathedral, has conducted workshops across India and has co-written art programmes for schools and colleges. She is also an independent art and design portfolio consultant, is a freelance illustrator and co-owns Art Lounge, an art supply store at Kala Ghoda. Azmin is the Co-curricular and Creativity Coordinator at BIS and also teaches Integrated Humanities and Art in Middle School. She’s often invited by Pre-Primary and Primary to conduct workshops for students and teachers. She also has a DELE Diploma B2 level, Spanish teaching certification from Instituto Cervantes DELE Diploma (B2 Level)from the Spanish Ministry ,a C1 language certification from a renowned institute in Barcelona . Madhulika holds an international diploma in Spanish as a foreign language (DELE C1 – Nivel superior) from University of Cervantes, Spain and to further enrich her teaching, Madhulika has completed specialized courses with Hispanic Horizons under Blanca Dean, the institute’s co-founder/director. She did her BCom from Sydenham College and then a Diploma in Social Communications Media from Sophia. Shridhar Vannam holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry and specialised in Analytical Chemistry during his M.Sc. Prior to joining BIS, he spent four years teaching JEE Chemistry at MT Educare. At BIS, he has been teaching IBDP for the past three years. Shridhar’s teaching approach prioritises practical understanding, utilising basic analogies and real-life examples, guided by the principle of “KIS” – Keep It Simple. Actively engaging in professional development, he attended the Category-3 subject-specific workshop by IBDP. In addition to his teaching accomplishments, Shridhar recently co-authored and published an article titled A Review on Electrospinning Techniques and Its Applications, showcasing his dedication to advancing and sharing knowledge in the field of chemistry. He strongly believes in his moral responsibility to pass on the knowledge of earthly chemistry to the upcoming generation, acknowledging that chemistry can vary from one planet to another.
Smriti has done her M.A. in Literature from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu and an MA in Literature and Creative Writing as a Fulbright Scholar from Temple University, Philadelphia. She later went on to get an MFA in Creative Writing from North Carolina State University. She has conducted several writing courses for undergraduate as well as doctoral students. She has attended the IB Category 1 and 2 Language and Literature Workshop. She joined BIS in 2013 and teaches Language & Literature and Theory of Knowledge to IBDP students. A published author, she writes regularly and her short stories have been featured in several collections of short stories, blogs and periodicals. She was the founder of an award-winning literary magazine called The Raleigh Review in the United States. She reads extensively and is passionate about teaching. She has co-authored a full length book published by Zubaan and her first independent novel, The Woman Who Climbed Trees, will be published by HarperCollins globally in February, 2023.
Tarana is a Clinical Psychologist and Counsellor who brings a wealth of experience spanning over 22 years in the fields of Counselling and training. Tarana’s academic journey includes an Honours degree in Psychology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, followed by a Masters in Clinical Psychology from SNDT University, Mumbai. She plays an integral role as a Clinical Psychologist and Counsellor at BIS, where she imparts her wisdom to Senior School and IBDP students. Equipped with a diverse range of therapeutic approaches, Tarana’s professional portfolio encompasses both traditional and contemporary methods. Her career embarked with Shelter Don Bosco, an NGO dedicated to aiding street children. She furthered her expertise with the Mumbai District Aids Control Society before transitioning to an esteemed teaching role at S.N.D.T University’s postgraduate department.

Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife – Spain, in a Sindhi business family, Rekha grew up surrounded by warm and loving Spanish people. Needless to say, Spanish was her first language and Spanish culture close to her heart. Although political instability in the region called for her to relocate to India with her parents, she was still connected to the Mediterranean island through family, friends and of course the language. After graduating from Jai Hind College in Arts she procured a Diploma in Administrative Management from NMIMS. Rekha then worked with HDFC Bank for 5 ½ years during which she was a Branch Manager and headed the Bhulabhai Desai Road and Kamla Mills Branch.
Popularly known as the Sindhi from Spain Rekha started informal Spanish training for friends at college and work here in Mumbai in 2012.
During the process, she realized that although she spoke the language fluently since she had never taught the language formally to anybody she wasn’t sure of how to teach Spanish grammar. So, Rekha decided to enroll at a Spanish Institute where she studied the framework of grammar and eventually started to teach.
While teaching the language she felt the need to take a number of courses and exams such as the DELE examination which equipped her to teach students studying the language at the IBDP level. She has now been tutoring students of various age groups for over five years.
With a career spanning over 30 years in the teaching profession, Aarti brings a wealth of expertise to her role. She teaches Physics and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and works with students of Grades 8, 9, 11,12. Crowned by a PhD in Philosophy, her educational background is a testament to her versatile interests, which extend to the domains of Science and Philosophy and support her interdisciplinary approach to teaching. Anika graduated from Parsons The New School for Design in 2009 as Designer of the Year, her work having been featured at Saks Fifth Avenue and other shows. After working in luxury childrenswear in New York, she returned to Mumbai to start her own brand and began teaching. She has taught at several institutions- Raffles, ISDI, ABWA, Ecole Intuit Lab, has guest lectured at Parsons New York, NIFT, BD Somani, Cathedral, has conducted workshops across India and has co-written art programmes for schools and colleges. She is also an independent art and design portfolio consultant, is a freelance illustrator and co-owns Art Lounge, an art supply store at Kala Ghoda. Azmin is the Co-curricular and Creativity Coordinator at BIS and also teaches Integrated Humanities and Art in Middle School. She’s often invited by Pre-Primary and Primary to conduct workshops for students and teachers. Bharathi has an MBA degree, after which she worked in the corporate sector for 8 years. Her love for languages led her to study in Barcelona, Spain. During her time in Barcelona, she immersed herself in the vibrant culture and pursued further education in Spanish language studies at both the University of Barcelona and ESADE,Barcelona. She also has a DELE Diploma B2 level, Spanish teaching certification from Instituto Cervantes DELE Diploma (B2 Level)from the Spanish Ministry ,a C1 language certification from a renowned institute in Barcelona . She has taught Spanish at language institutes and also conducted corporate training in Bangalore and Mumbai since 2009. Charu Srivastava is a passionate pedagogical leader involved with teaching of national and international curriculum for the past few decades. Madhulika holds an international diploma in Spanish as a foreign language (DELE C1 – Nivel superior) from University of Cervantes, Spain and to further enrich her teaching, Madhulika has completed specialized courses with Hispanic Horizons under Blanca Dean, the institute’s co-founder/director. She did her BCom from Sydenham College and then a Diploma in Social Communications Media from Sophia. She has attended IB workshops and constantly works on refining her teaching skills and acquiring innovative methodologies. Her diverse academic background along with experience as a journalist with TV18-CNBC and Star Plus, equips her with unique storytelling skills and real-world examples to enhance her language instruction. Neha is a biotechnologist by training. She is a proud alumna of BHU having done her chemistry honours in her graduation. Following up with a post graduation in Biotechnology, where she earned a gold medal. As a part of her Biotech course she did her internship at Indian Institute of Toxicological Research (IITR). She began her career with Natural Remedies in Bangalore. After a break for a couple of years, she switched over to teaching, starting with Podar , where she headed the chemistry department. She has been with BIS since 2020. She has extensive experience in teaching As and A level along with IGCSE. She has also completed Chemistry Category 3 workshop.

Prakash, with a Master’s in Computer Engineering, has been teaching at BIS since 2008. Pranoti specializes in a wide spectrum of subjects, including ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Robotics, Creation Station, and DP Computer Science. She is a certified SEE Learning (Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning) facilitator, conducting workshops for educators and adults, with a focus on navigating emotions and self-compassion. SPriya’s dedication to teaching is evident through her commitment to the profession, driven by her passion for her subject and her goal of inspiring students to become lifelong learners. Outside of her teaching role, music is her source of joy, as she has dedicated over 15 years to formal music study and has showcased her talents as a pianist and percussionist with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Priya actively participates in the Paranjoti Academy Chorus, a renowned a capella choir.
Sanne imparts her expertise to students from Grades 11-12. After venturing out successfully into Social Sciences and Humanities, obtaining an excellent academic background including a PhD in International Development Studies, an MSc (cum laude) in Contemporary Asian Studies, and an MA in History, she transitioned back to her first love: the German Language. Committed to lifelong learning Sanne, in her capacity as teacher of History, participated actively in workshops such as “Facing History and Ourselves’ and ‘Teaching Holocaust and Human Behavior’ along with various Cambridge IGCSE workshops. As German Teacher she has taken full advantage of the opportunities offered by the Goethe Institut in Mumbai, and participated successfully in a variety of workshops and conferences. In these she has explored a wide variety of relevant themes, including sustainability, digital worlds, intercultural communication and the role of authentic texts for language teaching. Embracing the IB philosophy and curriculum, Sanne loves enabling young adults to use foreign languages as a vehicle for learning about others, and about themselves and their place in the world. As Johann Wolfgang Goethe wrote: “Wer fremde Sprachen nicht kennt, weiß nichts von seiner eigenen.”
With a wealth of academic experience, Sharija serves as the Team Leader for English and Teacher of Language & Literature and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) for Grades 11 and 12. Her educational journey includes an M.A. in English Literature, specializing in Women’s Writing, along with B.A. degrees in English Literature and Indian Classical Dance with a focus on Bharatnatyam. Sharija’s teaching prowess extends beyond the IB Diploma Programme; she has taught Communication Skills and Literature at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Notably, she was handpicked as one of twenty participants from Asia for a Researchers’ Workshop, a collaboration between COMPARE research journal, the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative and Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education. Her endeavours at personal and professional development also include the Cognitively Based Compassion Training (CBCT) course, a workshop series on Food & Caste, and a Category 2 Theory of Knowledge (TOK) workshop. Her areas of interest are Gender; Caste; Class; Partition Studies; Indian literature; African-American literature; and works at the intersection of Literature and the Social Sciences. Beyond her academic accomplishments, Sharija finds solace in the arts, from literature and music to cinema and dance. Her multifaceted interests also encompass gardening and sustainable practices like composting. Guided by the profound wisdom of Aristotle, she embraces a holistic approach to education, firmly believing that nurturing the heart is as crucial as educating the mind.
Shalu has been teaching Hindi at BIS for several years to Senior School and also teaches the students of the Diploma programme. She has a Master’s degree in Hindi and has also completed her B.Ed. She has attended IGCSE cell meetings and CIE workshops for Hindi as well as the IBDP Category 1 and 2 workshops for Hindi B. She loves being with students and is passionate about igniting a love for our national language in our students. She enjoys dance, music and meeting people.
An accomplished educator, Shivani has brought her wealth of experience to the realm of high school education. Over the last eight years, she has made profound contributions to the growth of high school students and adeptly facilitated international curricula including IBDP and the Cambridge Pathway at prominent schools in Mumbai. Her pivotal roles in shaping student well-being initiatives, fostering leadership capabilities, and curating engaging student life programs demonstrate her commitment to holistic education. Armed with an MSc in Integrated Immunology from The University of Oxford, her scholarly achievements extend beyond academia with several papers published in eminent scientific journals. She teaches Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) to IBDP students with a mission to transcend conventional learning. Her educational journey has been one of self-discovery, firmly rooted in empowering teenagers to embrace learning as a l ooifelong pursuit. Central to her teaching philosophy is fostering not only essential life skills but also strong value systems, nurturing their social, emotional, and intellectual capacities.
Shridhar Vannam holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry and specialised in Analytical Chemistry during his M.Sc. Prior to joining BIS, he spent four years teaching JEE Chemistry at MT Educare. At BIS, he has been teaching IBDP for the past three years. Shridhar’s teaching approach prioritises practical understanding, utilising basic analogies and real-life examples, guided by the principle of “KIS” – Keep It Simple. Actively engaging in professional development, he attended the Category-3 subject-specific workshop by IBDP. In addition to his teaching accomplishments, Shridhar recently co-authored and published an article titled A Review on Electrospinning Techniques and Its Applications, showcasing his dedication to advancing and sharing knowledge in the field of chemistry. He strongly believes in his moral responsibility to pass on the knowledge of earthly chemistry to the upcoming generation, acknowledging that chemistry can vary from one planet to another.
Smriti has done her M.A. in Literature from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu and an MA in Literature and Creative Writing as a Fulbright Scholar from Temple University, Philadelphia. She later went on to get an MFA in Creative Writing from North Carolina State University. She has conducted several writing courses for undergraduate as well as doctoral students. She has attended the IB Category 1 and 2 Language and Literature Workshop. She joined BIS in 2013 and teaches Language & Literature and Theory of Knowledge to IBDP students. A published author, she writes regularly and her short stories have been featured in several collections of short stories, blogs and periodicals. She was the founder of an award-winning literary magazine called The Raleigh Review in the United States. She reads extensively and is passionate about teaching. She has co-authored a full length book published by Zubaan and her first independent novel, The Woman Who Climbed Trees, will be published by HarperCollins globally in February, 2023.
Tarana is a Clinical Psychologist and Counsellor who brings a wealth of experience spanning over 22 years in the fields of Counselling and training. Tarana’s academic journey includes an Honours degree in Psychology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, followed by a Masters in Clinical Psychology from SNDT University, Mumbai. She plays an integral role as a Clinical Psychologist and Counsellor at BIS, where she imparts her wisdom to Senior School and IBDP students. Tarana’s subjects of expertise revolve around fostering well being, catering to Grade 9 through Grade 12 students. Equipped with a diverse range of therapeutic approaches, Tarana’s professional portfolio encompasses both traditional and contemporary methods. Her career embarked with Shelter Don Bosco, an NGO dedicated to aiding street children. She furthered her expertise with the Mumbai District Aids Control Society before transitioning to an esteemed teaching role at S.N.D.T University’s postgraduate department.
Her leadership was evident during her tenure as Director at Sinara Education and Career Consultants Pvt. Ltd, where she oversaw the training and counselling division in collaboration with the Times Foundation. Complimenting her professional endeavors are Tarana’s personal interests in Psychology, Eastern Philosophy, Indian classical music, and art. These passions not only enrich her holistic approach to counselling and education but also reflect her multidimensional perspective on life and human experience. She has completed the Science of Wellbeing programme by Yale University.

Over the years, Zeeba has passionately taught Information and Communication Technology to Grades 7-8 in middle school and Cambridge IGCSE ICT to Grades 9 and 10 in senior school. Her student connections are evident through active involvement with the Student Government and her contributions to the design and layout of the e-yearbook. As a Model United Nations Advisor, she has guided students through various conferences. Zeeba’s commitment to professional development shines through her participation in workshops covering topics such as improving learning, effective classroom management, motivating students to become independent learners, Cambridge IGCSE Information and Communication Technology, Cybersecurity, and Google Apps for Education. Furthermore, she has shared her expertise by conducting in-service training on the effective integration of technology for collaborative learning.
